In a nutshell…
In 2021 we’ve teamed up with the U.S. Embassy in Belgium to launch ‘The great passport to STEM challenge’. This is a free, virtual, and cross-cultural after-school program from January – June 2021 that encourages girls to be sustainable innovators . Our aim is to inspire 100 girls from different backgrounds to use Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to solve an innovative design challenge with a network of support from expert role-models and mentors in the fields.
This is a multilingual, international program and we invite any school in Belgium and the United States to apply for the challenge!
And…
Interested as an individual? If you are not part of a school but wish to take part, please contact us directly to see what is possible!
Your challenge…
These are just a few of the questions we will ask the participants to resolve!
To help you…
To help you in this challenge, we will provide participants with guidance from our education team, learning experiences, hands-on science demonstrations and pedagogic toolkits.
Students will have the opportunity to build their STEM skills, connect with a network of role-models and innovative companies, and collaborate with girls across continents to design their own sustainable classroom of tomorrow.
Who is this program for?
Schools across Belgium and the US ready to showcase their commitment to sustainability
Teachers ready to embrace the challenge and be our point of contact through the program as a facilitator to the chosen group of girls
Participants aged 12-15 ready for the challenge
Each school selects a group of 5-15 girls to participate and represent their school.
When?
This is a project throughout the academic year 2020 – 2021.
Before we begin - Register your interest by December 18 to be considered for the program!
Phase I - Create teams, grab your virtual passport and get ready for a digital launch event!
Phase II - Decide on a theme together. With g4g guidance, virtual resources and the design thinking methodology, it’s time to make our ideas come to life!
Phase III - Sharing prototypes with paired sister school for cross-continental collaboration, support and feedback; Assigned STEM mentor for each school helps guide the re-design process.
Phase IV - Showcase your final prototype and get ready for the rewards ceremony!
A note about security
Our virtual meetings will take place on the platform, Zoom. We ensure that private information remains confidential, particularly by utilizing Zoom’s safety functions such as waiting rooms, passwords, authenticated users, in-meeting security controls, control of screen sharing, and control of disabling, blocking, or muting users.
We will be monitoring online safety during the broadcast by having a Safety Officer as part of our dedicated behind-the-scenes team which will monitor unruly chat or be ready to remove anyone that doesn’t belong (using the security controls built into Zoom).
